How long have you been working at CIT and what did you do before working at CIT? 6 ½ years at CIT. Prior to commencing at CIT, I was a service manager for the Rolfe Motor Group for 14 years. I have worked in the automotive industry for 26 years.
Tell us about the award you’ve won. ACT VET Teacher/Trainer of the Year 2022
What does your job entail? I am a Teacher Level 2, leading the Electric Vehicle Program development and training. This encompasses the design and development of the CERT III in Electric Vehicle Technology, Battery Electric Vehicle Service Skillset and 1st responder training. I also manage the TESLA national apprenticeship program and manage/deliver the Toyota apprentice program for Southern NSW and ACT.
What’s the best thing about working at CIT? Being part of a company that promotes and supports creativity amongst their teachers. It is also great to be able to give back to the industry that has given me so much throughout my career and helped shape the careers of our next generation of technicians.
The AEU has a campaign to increase CIT funding, ‘CIT: It matters.’ Why does CIT matter? To ensure we have a skilled workforce, it is essential apprentices have access to quality government-funded RTOs. Without adequate government funding, higher fees would need to be charged to deliver quality learning that meets industry needs. If fees increase, it would place more pressure on the industry. We have a lot of industries that rely on us to provide training to their workforce. Correct funding ensures constancy of the learning outcomes and supports our industries which are vital to our local economy.
Why are you an AEU member? Why is being a Union member important? I became an AEU member after seeing the positive outcomes of supporting teachers through all aspects of their day-to-day roles and career. I believe we are stronger as a team and the AEU supports and strengthens the voice of our teachers.
